FreeNode: Lies, Hax, and Consequences. Updated.

The link situated at the bottom of this post is to a “Full Disclosure” on Rob Levin, or lilo, the guy who has been running FreeNode - badly by all accounts - for some time now.
I would like to take a moment to note that sensitive information is also disclosed about Mr. Levin, above and beyond a calling-out of his irresponsible and uncouth actions.
FreeNode is supposed to be an umbrella and a haven for open source and independent software projects and creators.
The running theory among those in the know, however, is that Levin is a swindler, a layabout, and generally a shmuck.

I support Open Source. I don’t support ass-hattery. Free Freenode, and let’s be done with this bozo.

Edit - Per a recent reply, I have edited the “hidden” link area to include a key follow up reply to this situation. Many thanks to for the heads up.
The plot thickens all the time on this situation, and it’s a huge, dramatic waste of time from what I can tell. Just as an injection of pure opinion: Mr. Levin simply needs to bow out of this situation and allow the community to recover.
The more information that surfaces, the less feasible it is that Levin is anything but - to put it delicately - a dumbass.
Coding is hard enough without important people in the community being Drama Llamas!

A friday five from me.

1. What was the last new song you discovered?
Salty from ormgas sent me a few Moxy Fruvous songs. They’re really enjoyable. Sort of folky.

2. What was the last new dish you tasted?
A cabbage, potato and kielbasa soup the BF’s mom made. Really tasty. But I’d sub out the turkey keilbasa for other stuff, personally.

3. Where was the last place you visited for the first time?
Probably Vegas. I’m sure I’ve gone other places since then, but that’s the last one that stands out.

4. Who was the last new person you met?
Actually met? I forget, there’s been a flurry of new faces. Probably Mehrl and Leslie, who are now in management at the company I work for.

5. What was the last new toy you played with?
hrmmm….. hard to peg. I consider so many things toys!

:P
I’m bad at this.

But we can’t feed them to lions, ’cause those are in Kenya

News from Norway!

The Norweigan government has cut two companies who have frequently been found guilty of human and environmental rights breeches from their country’s pension fund investments.

Wal-Mart and Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold Inc have had their stocks “dumped” from Norway’s investment plan, and there are currently no plans to buy back into these companies at any time in the near future.

More details within the article, but I wanted to help spread the word. It’s always encouraging to see a large group who can make a difference putting the hurt onto big companies like Wal-Mart.

My question now is this: Who will see the hurt from this action? Corporate, the buying public, or the people they unethically employ and underpay already?

If you guessed the third answer, then you agree with me.

I cannot presume to be a purist in this matter, I have deliberately visited my local Wal-Mart stores when I needed a handful of random crap. However, most of the time I much prefer going…. anywhere else. A lot of the customers in Wal-Mart - at least around here - are creepy and rude. That alone is enough to set off my periodicially piercing fear of humanity and keep me away.

Physician, heal thyself

The Luddite strikes to the core of the matter.
I wrote him to commend his attitude towards the situation.

As stated by someone else who made a lot of sense: “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

Anyone else on last fm?
Friend me please! :D I love spying on others musical tastes. It’s delicious!

And also… more belated than i wanted, but here’s the most accurate “family spaghetti plate” diagram I managed to dig from my archives.

I know it’s one of the more random iterations, and not one of the more “core” versions, but it will definitely refresh the memory on how it worked. I know for a fact I’ve got another kicking about, but that’s the one I found first, so that’s what you get.

following suit

As stolen from Matty: ten words beginning with a predetermined letter and what they mean to me. Comment on it and you get stuck with a letter of my choice.

I got “L”

Listen - Something I try to do often, which also prevents me from speaking a lot of the time. right now, I’m listening to my new neighbor make noise thru the wall.

Litany - something experienced daily. As in ‘today I went through the litany of bullshit that’s more and more common these days.’

List - something I frequently use to convey my thoughts because it’s organized.

Lethargy - a common state of being for me these days, as charactarized by my not wanting to give much of a damn anymore.

Late - something I am rather often, and a time frame in which I am typically up. See Also: late thirty, late fifteen, and late o’clock.

Love - is a super-crazy emotion. I wish I understood what drives it a little bit better.

Loser - opposite of winner. Something I try to avoid being, and something it’s hard not to feel like anyway a lot of the time.

Longneck - a type of beer bottle. mmm… beer.

Linens - fancy word for sheets or fancy sheets themselves. Sheets go on beds, I like to be in bed because it’s warm and safe and I can sleep there. Fancy sheets are also a secret status indicator for me.

Last - “nice guys finish ___” “at ___ my love has come along.” “____ but not least” “____ in line” “____ of the mohicans” “let’s dance, the _____ dance” etc etc etc. a filler word, a catch prase word, an often dismal word at that.

Side note: Before anyone can suggest it…. I’m not emo, goddamnit, I’m scared shitless and it’s clouding my judgement. Doesn’t the latter approach say so much more about me as a person than “emo” ever could? Good. Stop using the term, it’s boring.
