Ouch. Reach vs. Grasp.
Another curiosity provided by the Google mail web clips.
This is a sponsored link that goes to a blog (obviously) with a really interesting post title.
Of course, I was dying to check it out, to see what kind of person this author was, and who they wanted to sling mud at bad enough to pay for a link in google mail. I was also pretty psyched to share it and probably sling a little mud of my own in response.
When I get there?
In case you can’t read the text, it says “ERROR: This blog is on hold because its bandwidth has been exceeded. Please contact your blog provider.” Looks like his blog host/platform provider has a bandwidth policy that doesn’t line up with the author’s ambitions.
Ooooooops… apparently the guy underestimated how popular this move would make him. Bummer dude. Incidentally, “blog” and “bandwidth” are double underlined in that capture there. This is because they both are triggers for small, keyword-related ads. I wonder if those are the author’s ads or the service’s ads? My guess is the service stuffed those ads in there, because there’s also a banner ad at the top and a pop-up that I had to block.
Man, actually, for a service whose motto is “Make a Self for Your Name” (get it? ha ha!), they certainly provide plenty of opportunities for you to move away from an individual rather quickly.
It’s hard enough to drum up blog readership - the legitimate kind - without something like that in your way. I can see why this intrepid user tried to buy his way into the limelight. Too bad the author’s choice of provider proved deadly to his/her cause.
I wonder what would happen to me if I tried that?
