Another Litarary Loss: Robert Jordan

The world of those who love fantasy literature has taken yet another blow. Robert Jordan died yesterday at 2:45pm after a long battle with primary amyloidosis with cardiomyopathy (cardiac amyloidosis). He is best known for his long running series of novels, The Wheel of Time. Jordan was working on the 12th and final novel during the period leading up to his death. No word has been given at this time on what will be done with that manuscript. Some of Jordan’s other work includes his installments on the Conan the Barbarian series of novels.

If I may wax personal for a moment…

As a long time fan of the Wheel of Time series of novels, I am deeply saddened by this. Some of my first major interpersonal connections with people via the internet were because of my enthusiasm for his truly epic fantasy novels. Although to be square with you, gentle readers, I sort of trailed off after about book 6 or so. Yet my enjoyment of the fan community and the great people I met has never been dampened.

Point of fact, I was informed of Jordan’s death by a member of a Wheel of Time community I have not been an active part of in years. Which in my mind speaks volumes about the bonds generated as a direct result of WoT fandom. The community surrounding these novels is a diverse and passionate group. At this time there are over 500 (rather lengthy) comments to the post at Jordan’s official blog located at the fan site, Dragonmount.com, and growing. The community I spent the most time at is located at http://www.intheshadows.org/ …when it’s not busy being a parked domain.

Love and Light be with the friends, family and fans of Mr. Jordan. He will be deeply missed by many, yours truly among them.

Oh, no! This is tremendously sad.

When I left the Tower for the last time, I felt like I’d reached the end of an era of my life that spanned a good 8 years…now it’s like the door is completely shut on it.
