I’ve recently taken the jump to work freelance as an internet marketer. Because of this I’ve been spending almost every waking hour researching and leveraging social platforms to the best of my understanding. But this post isn’t about self promotion this is about all of the wonderful things you can do online.

Now I have to start by saying that I hate television programming. The shows I do like I can either stream from their parent sites, get them on my Netflix, and if I really like them order the box set off of Amazon. What I think is the most wonderful thing about living in this day and age is that there is virtually no need for our parents sources of…well anything.

First thing I do upon sitting down at the internet machine is check email. I check up with clients and write emails about the importance of having properly worded title tags for each page on the website. Then I’ll head over to last.fm and boot up my playlist. Otherwise known as scrobbling. I’ll take in a few songs, find the right genre for the mood that I’m in and then open my gmail to become available to whoever needs to talk real time. If nothing is going on in the email then I’ll check out some blogs in the SEO world to see what’s new for the day.

Recently I’ve started using twitter. I’ll admit that I didn’t “get it” at first. I’ve had my account for over a year and never used the thing simply because I wasn’t sure what the major difference between that and a Facebook status update really was. I also feel like my apathy towards twitter may have excluded me from what could have been some really good opportunities previously. So yeah, now I’m on the bandwagon and I love it. It’s amazing just how powerful 140 characters can be…If you’re following the right people. So I’ve posted a few things and have shared some of the sites that I’ve come across which involves shortening the URLs. And if I find something that I really like I’ll bring it over to Digg and do that too.

So while this is all going on a song from a band I’ve never heard before will come across while I’m scrobbling so I’ll add the band click back over to the twitter, check out some new info on blogs rinse, lather, repeat.

Then I get hungry, because at this point three hours have already passed and I am still after all only human. It dawned on me recently that if I lived in city that I could have groceries delivered to my door or even have McDonald’s delivered. I think this could be overkill though.

It makes me chuckle to myself just a little to know that back in the day that information and communication was so limited and now we can know as much as we want. It also scares me though that it is just so easy to never leave this computer. With a catheter and colostomy bag, truly there would be no need to leave for extended periods of time.

But really there still is a need for actual human interaction. I mean it’s that human connection that truly makes the world go round and makes life worth living. After all what’s the point of living if you can’t have at least one person to verify that you existed. Oh hold on a second….

Sorry, someone responded to my Craigslist post. Looks like I have a date tonight! And it looks like we like the same music…
