Looks like I get to be the bearer of bad news again (assuming you didn’t notice that I was scooped by The Underwire).

T-Shirt Hell, parent company and temporary savior of Torsopants, is now closing its metaphorical and literal doors. Why? Sunshine Megatron, the site’s owner and creator, is sick of everybody’s shit. Rather than sell the fairly successful business, they are simply going to shut down. It’s a personal decision, with the idea being that he would rather see T-shirt Hell go down in flames (if you pardon the pun), than to be co-opted by less daring new ownership.

So that’s it. He’s leaving Gaia, and no you can’t have his rares.

P.S. Stuff is on sale since they’re going to be closing up shop, and there are some older and more controversial designs available right now in addition to the Torsopants rollovers. Get them while they’re hot, because they’re officially all done on February 10th.

TeeFury is a favorite site of mine. Every day they have a new, artist designed tee shirt available. They’re only available for that ONE day though, so every day’s offering is also a rare opportunity to own wearable art. I’ve gotten several shirts from them already, and I definitely vouch for their comfort and quality. As I mentioned when talking about Tshirt Hell, CHECK SIZING! I have to get a men’s XL to accomodate my chest, the women’s sizes just don’t run large enough. (Which is a bummer, because I do like the tailoring and color options for the women’s versions of their shirts.)

Today, TeeFury is offering an Obama shirt, naturally. It’s a black and white caricature on a soft blue shirt done by Randy McQuien Jr. You can read more about the artist on the TeeFury home page.

Light blue is the women's style, darker blue is the men's.

As previously mentioned, Torsopants – a quirky upper body covering purveyor and overall happy fun time site – shut down in December. However, good tshirts don’t die, they just go to hell.

T-shirt Hell, the parent company of Torsopants, has absorbed its offspring like a nervous doe rabbit eating her own litter in times of hardship. Instead of just shitting out nasty little chunks of baby bunny though, T-shirt Hell will instead be shitting out, I mean shipping out, some of Torsopants’ greatest hit shirts. So if you really were jonesing for the “platypus of death” shirt but just couldn’t avoid getting grandma that Ferrari she wanted for Christmas, rejoice for such things are indeed still available to you.

The Torsopants site itself is gone, much to my sadness it now redirects to T-shirt Hell. Yet it’s nice to know the blackened, filth-crusted hearts of T-shirt Hell’s foul overlords are big enough to give the flippantly bizzare offerings from Torsopants enough credit to offer them up to a public no doubt emotionally scarred by the inability to finally get the shirt that lets the whole world know they’re thinking about dwarves.

There are also a few Torsopants hiding out in the “Last Call” area, so don’t forget to check that out. I just ordered the “I Bring Nothing To The Table” tee, myself. (The shirt I got was a little bit snug on me, so if you have sizing concerns like I do I strongly recommend ordering a size up from what you think you need.) And just so you know, they take several forms of payment for your convenience: Credit Card, Google Checkout, PayPal, Gift Certificates, “VIP” (related to a program of theirs), and Sexual Favors. You can also apply Blood Money, which is a user participation points program they offer.

I recently purchased the Acer Aspire One netbook for $349.00 and I gotta say, three weeks in, it’s been worth every penny. I really love this little portable! It’s tiny (9.8″W x 6.7″D x 1.14″H to be exact), but not to the point of compromising usability; and it comes stock with everything I need, and little I don’t.

Initial Thoughts

The Acer Aspire One is sturdy and well-made, yet ultra compact and light (weighing in at just 2.2 pounds). The 8.9″ screen (though fairly small) boasts a resolution that is is beautiful- crisp, clear and bright owing to the Acer CrystalBrite™ LCD display. It’s also got an easy to use zoom-feature, to make browsing a breeze. The keyboard is surprisingly accommodating for a netbook. In fact, I use mine primarily for word-processing (and browsing the internet) and have had no issues with spending prolonged periods of time typing.

Specs

Though specs vary by model, the AOA150-1570 comes with an Intel® Atom™ N270 processor, 1GB installed memory and a 120GB hard drive (that’s bigger than my desktop!). It’s also got a Multi-in-One card reader, integrated Wi-Fi and even a built-in webcam- perfect for Skyping. The AOA150-1570 also comes with Microsoft Windows XP Home, though I may run Linux gOS which is said to be designed primarily for netbooks. While it doesn’t come with CD or DVD drives (netbooks’ size don’t allow for them) it does have 3 USB ports. CNET editors’ review called Acer Aspire One “the best all-around Netbook… for less than $400.”

Just One Complaint…

My one complaint about the Acer Aspire One is it’s somewhat wimpy battery life. Its 3-cell Li-ion provides a maximum of 2.5 hours before needing to be charged. However, this hasn’t posed a problem for me as I don’t spend much time using it at coffee-shops or on park benches. If you think you’ll need more battery life, there is a 6-cell version available. You can even purchase an admittedly bulky 9-cell battery which will give you a whopping 9:40 hours of cord-free fun.

Portability

Reviewers tout its portability as a major ownership benefit (many say its perfect for tossing in a backpack or purse), and while the Acer Aspire One does come with a small rubber case, I might recommend purchasing a more durable sleeve if you’re really going to be throwing it in a knapsack. Otherwise, you can buy a hard shell carrying-case with handle.

Bottom Line

I love this thing. Check it out. If you’re in the market for a new notebook, but don’t have a huge budget, the Acer Aspire One might be your answer. It’s mine!

One of our affiliates, TorsoPants, is regrettably no longer going to be with us. On December 23rd (Hail Eris) they will close their </html> forever. They are the most openly absurdist tee shirt-ery this side of Fnord. It’s worth a look, especially since these coming days will be your last opportunity to clothe yourself in the finest of absurd concepts and pithy sayings.

It is with great sadness that I announce, at the urging of Bilderberg, that I am closing the doors at TorsoPants.com at midnight December 23rd, 2008. I cannot get into complete details, but my higher masters have told me that my mission will be changing over the next few months and this is the first step in a series of movements I will make in my life to fulfill the prophecy that is Sunshine Megatron.

Torsopants.com was a very personal project for me and I am proud of what we accomplished and of the product we brought to the masses. I can only pray that those who remain asleep will wake up by the end of 2009 (the 11 year) , but cannot explain this any further and only wish the best for all of your human race.

So, the 2 new Torsopants this week will be our last new designs and as mentioned above, December 23rd, 2008 will be the final day in the life of our experiment. Feel free to buy something before it’s done.

Good luck Sunshine, Gary, Jacob, Mika and Jason – I hope future endeavors bring you much success. (Don’t know who I’m talking about? I dare you to find the answer. It’s there.)

Everybody could stand to have a few more tee shirts. They do make a sensible choice for when exposing yourself isn’t much of an option, and they’re one of the most pleasantly entertaining options for upper body coverage available. Besides, a tee shirt isn’t your only option. They can also print these delightful sweet nothings on hoodies and tank tops too, and they have a variety of styles available in standard tee shirt types, including some American Apparel offerings. And for every style option there’s a variety of base colors, so you aren’t stuck with the white-text-on-a-black-shirt kind of humorwear. Variety is the spice of life, and the spice must flow.

There’s only about 3 weeks left to get your hands on your very own pair of TorsoPants. Think about it, won’t you?

The truth hurts

So after watching the press conference this morning and getting super mega ultra excited, I spent a good couple of hours mashing F5 in anticipation of pre-order.

The press conference was interesting but not mind-blowing. It was, however, nice to get a better feel for the features and see some nice, shiny demo videos. Update: Engadget Mobile has posts galore about today’s unveiling. I won’t get into the few parts I gleaned from the demo.

This eventually lead me to log in, which had me so pumped I thought I would explode. Then… over an hour of server errors.

Eventually T-Mobile disabled phone upgrades altogether – right around 1pm, if I remember correctly – probably to figure out how the hell to handle that much traffic. If I were them, I’d see if they could borrow a server farm from Larry and Sergey until the pre-order is all over.

T-Mobile, taking a page from Pandemic's President Madagasgar, SHUT. DOWN. EVERYTHING. Ok, just the upgrade section, but still.

I will be poking at their servers for the rest of the day. While I realize this adds to their server load, I will not be the only person doing this, and with this kind of outage, coupled with the knowledge that there are supposedly 400,000 up for pre-order, it’s either be aggressive or get left scrambling on October 22nd.
Success must be mine! Wish me luck. :D

I DID IT!

FUCK YEAH

After a day of confusion and mild frustration, as of approximately 3:26pm EST, I am now one of the approximately 400,000 to secure a T-Mobile HTC G1 with Android and all that good stuff!

Because I could not stop for success, success kindly stopped for me. I had taken a break from my rabid F5-ing and decided to socialize with my co-workers, then I decided it was a good time to hit refresh on my T-mobile account page. LO! The upgrade phone link was back! I hit the promo image on the site and it actually worked! Not only did it work, but the site loaded as quickly as you please. I completed my order in nothing flat.

The phone cost, with the “upgrade fee” comes in at $197.99. Just under the originally predicted $199.

The G1 should be in my hot little hands on or about October 22nd. There will be an unboxing and setup post when I get it. Assuming I don’t get so excited that I just tear the whole package apart like a tazmanian devil.
