Yesterday (September 13th, a day that will live in infamy for the next few weeks), during the MTV Music Video Awards: Kanye West made an ass of himself… again.

Here’s how it went down:
Taylor Swift won some manner of award on the 2009 VMAs for having a video that no one probably saw because MTV stopped playing music videos several years ago.
She arrived on stage to take the microphone to make her thank you speech.
Kanye West – proud non-reader of books – then invited himself onto the stage, took the microphone, and proceeded to inform the audience that Taylor would be allowed to finish, but Beyonce had one of the best music videos of all time.
While that may or may not be true, this has since sparked a rather large kerfluffle over what a massive, unrepentant douchebag West continues to be in the face of all rational thought.

More importantly, this has spawned a new image macro, and a less funny, but undoubtedly more popular, video featuring President Obama’s recent speech, and big to-do after a reporter spilled through Twitter (and later retracted) that Obama called West a jackass for interrupting Ms. Swift like that; the audio on that conversation has since leaked to the internet.

Whether or not this fledgling image macro becomes a full-fledged meme is hard to say. The event is so mainstream the enjoyment factor may be lulzkilled by media coverage burnout, resulting in premature death.

It’s already spread to twitter in the form of a user image overlay put out by twibbon which – while an appalling amalgam of words for cutesy trend purposes – is kind of an interesting tool. It allows you to sign up and “show your support” for a variety of causes or trends by the use of automatic user pic overlays. In this case, it’s a headshot of Kanye West with “Ima let u finish”, effectively blocking out the person’s userpic altogether.

And Colbert hopped on the let’s-make-fun-of-the-village-idiot wagon on Monday as well. Colbert uses his character’s over-inflated ego to counterpoint the absurdity of over-inflated ego, making his jab cast a much sharper relief on the utter ridiculousness of the entire situation. The thing I enjoyed most was that he actually focused on giving some props to the actual award winner, Taylor Swift, who really deserves far more attention than the assclown that interrupted her anyway.
(P.S. Speaking of Comedy Central, I totally beat CCInsider to this meme story by a good 3 hours. Just remember, you heard it here first, folks!)

A favorite site of mine, teefury.com, also got into the action yesterday when they debuted their one-off shirt: “I hated Kanye before hating Kanye was cool”. The truth of that was almost enough to make me break my “no slogans on shirts” rule. Soup.io user Amsterdam was smart enough to capture the design before the opportunity to buy the shirt was gone. (They do a different design every 24 hours, and ONLY for 24 hours.)

Rather than requesting anyone be truly creative, this meme asks you to gather three things, throw them through an image editor, and guffaw heartily at how oddly realistic they seem. Allow me to demonstrate:

Kind of looks like something you’d find in the bargin bin, right? Well it is, in fact, a thrown together combination of stuff based on the following rules

1. Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random – The first article title on the page is the name of your band.
2. Click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 – The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.
3. Visit http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/ – The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
4. Use your graphics program of choice to throw them together, and post the result.

It’s not so much a meme as an image macro, but that’s ok. It could still be worth some amusement factor if you happen upon the right combination of stuff. The whole thing lol!

This is how I first encountered this speech pattern meme-thing in the wilds of soup. It made no sense and every time I saw it, I giggled like a small, feeble-minded child. The absurdity! The expressions! And oh how the mind delighted over the many awkward possibilities of the missing verb. This pattern, “I accidentally a __ is this bad?” has since become a local meme of sorts, applying to any number of situations where a malformed sentence feels appropriate.

Or WOULD you? This is probably my favorite version of the “I accidentally a coca cola bottle”, since it’s mocking that condescending short that runs in front of DVDs (and theater movies too, I take it) that is designed to imply that stealing a movie is on par with injecting your sainted grandmother with a particularly virulent strain of ebola.

This little wonder phrase has already made its way into Yahoo answers. Hardly any surprise to see people attempting to take it seriously. Why does anyone actually fall for this? Discuss.

Looks can be very tricksome indeed. Take this juicy hentai clip below. At least, that’s what it looks like, right? I assure you, it’s actually quite innocuous, and rather laughable. (And I also promise it’s not a rickroll. You have my word.)

There are a lot of clips like this on youtube, and a few that are genuinely somewhat perverted. There are also a lot of annoying edits with flashing and sped up music and general obnoxiousness. Poke around for a little while some time (when you aren’t at work, just to be safe). Some of these “hentai” clips might actually be funny enough to watch.

This morning my mother copied to me via IM an email or a page she had found. Within contains the most complete list of paranoias, hoaxes, wishful thoughts, and general falderall ever generated via email chain letters. It is a tremendously entertaining read and I absolutely have to share with you all. Oh, and if you don’t digg, del.icio.us and put this on your facebook then bad luck and extreme misfortune will infest your pathetic soul for all eternity. Bill Gates told me so. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

This is pretty cute and I thought you’d get a few healthy chuckles from it. :) I just want to thank all of you for your educational emails over the past year. Thanks to you, I no longer open a public bathroom door without using a paper towel. I can’t use the remote in a hotel room because I don’t know what the last person was doing while flipping through the adult movie channels. I can’t sit down on the hotel bedspread because I can only imagine what has happened on it since it was last washed. I can’t enjoy lemon slices in my tea or on my seafood anymore because lemon peels have been found to contain all kinds of nasty germs including feces. I have trouble shaking hands with someone who has been driving because the number one pass-time while driving alone is picking your nose (although cell phone usage may be taking the number one spot) Eating a Little Debbie sends me on a guilt trip because I can only imagine how many gallons of trans fats I have consumed over the years. I can’t touch any woman’s purse for fear she has placed it on the floor of a public bathroom. Yuck! I must send my special thanks to whoever sent me the one about poop in the glue on envelopes because I now have to use a wet sponge with every envelope that needs sealing. Also, now I have to scrub the top of every can I open for the same reason. I no longer have any savings because I gave it to a sick girl (Penny Brown) who is about to die in the hospital for the 1,387,258th time. I no longer have any money at all, but that will change once I receive the $15,000 that Bill Gates/Microsoft and AOL are se nding me for participating in their special e-mail program. I no longer worry about my soul because I have 363,214 angels looking out for me, and St. Theresa’s novena has granted my every wish. I no longer eat KFC because their chickens are actually horrible mutant freaks with no eyes or feathers. I no longer use cancer-causing deodorants even though I smell like a water buffalo on a hot day. Thanks to you, I have learned that my prayers only get answered if I forward an email to seven of my friends and make a wish within five minutes. Because of your concern I no longer drink Coca Cola because it can remove toilet stains. I no longer can buy gasoline without taking someone along to watch the car so a serial killer won’t crawl in my back seat when I’m pumping gas.. I no longer drink Pepsi or Dr Pepper since the people who make these products are atheists who refuse to put ‘Under God’ on their cans. I no longer use Saran wrap in the microwave because it causes cancer. I no longer check the coin return on pay phones because I could be pricked with a needle infected with AIDS. I no longer go to shopping malls because someone will drug me with a perfume sample and rob me. I no longer receive packages from UPS or FedEx since they are actually Al Qaeda in disguise. I no longer shop at Target since they are French and don’t support our American troops or the Salvation Army. I no longer answer the phone because someone will ask me to dial a num ber for which I will get a phone bill with calls to Jamaica , Uganda & Singapore and Uzbekistan I no longer buy expensive cookies from Neiman Marcus since I now have their recipe. Thanks to you, I can’t use anyone’s toilet but mine because a big brown African spider is lurking under the seat to cause me instant death when it bites my butt. And thanks to your great advice, I can’t ever pick up $5.00 dropped in the parking lot because it probably was placed there by a sex molester waiting underneath my car to grab my leg. I can no longer drive my car because I can’t buy gas from certain gas companies! April Fools’ Day, one of the most loathsome and wasteful days the calendar year has to offer, has come and gone. Most everyone seems to have survived, thankfully.

DeviantArt, known for being a haven of artists producing works ranging from hackle-raising (no pun intended) furry fan art to really good photography, decided to celebrate this traditional day of asshattery by pranking all of its users. The accomplished this feat, not by Rickrolling everybody and their brother, but by taking care of exposing the masses to another already-mostly-expired internet meme.

For the duration of April first, all DeviantArt user pics were changed to a looping animated gif of a Mudkip, which displayed the phrase “so I heard you like mudkips??”. (Well, more or less anyway.)

A lot of people seemed to be under the impression that DeviantArt had been “hacked” by 4chan. A lot of other people didn’t seem to mind at all. Indeed some even seemed to embrace the siren song of the anime rendition of an axolotl forever om nom nom nom-ing in their profiles and various visited pages.

It was of course only a joke and DeviantArt returned everyone’s avatars to normal when it was April 2nd. April Fools’ Day was pretty uneventful for yours truly, I think I would have liked to have had a little omigod hax! rather than an entire day of waiting for someone to do something awful to me. Anybody out there get meme bashed or otherwise tricked this past April 1st?
