April Fools’ Day, one of the most loathsome and wasteful days the calendar year has to offer, has come and gone. Most everyone seems to have survived, thankfully.
DeviantArt, known for being a haven of artists producing works ranging from hackle-raising (no pun intended) furry fan art to really good photography, decided to celebrate this traditional day of asshattery by pranking all of its users. The accomplished this feat, not by Rickrolling everybody and their brother, but by taking care of exposing the masses to another already-mostly-expired internet meme.
For the duration of April first, all DeviantArt user pics were changed to a looping animated gif of a Mudkip, which displayed the phrase “so I heard you like mudkips??”. (Well, more or less anyway.)
A lot of people seemed to be under the impression that DeviantArt had been “hacked” by 4chan. A lot of other people didn’t seem to mind at all. Indeed some even seemed to embrace the siren song of the anime rendition of an axolotl forever om nom nom nom-ing in their profiles and various visited pages.
It was of course only a joke and DeviantArt returned everyone’s avatars to normal when it was April 2nd. April Fools’ Day was pretty uneventful for yours truly, I think I would have liked to have had a little omigod hax! rather than an entire day of waiting for someone to do something awful to me. Anybody out there get meme bashed or otherwise tricked this past April 1st?

After looking at the actual Chaos Game, it almost seems silly of me to insist this is chaotic. Regardless of any technical chaotic qualifications, it is mesmerizing. The subtlest twitches of the mouse send swirling sheres of various sizes into mad dashes to all corners of the screen, tracing intricate kaliedoscopic patterns to dazzle the eye. It ultimately follows a set structure at the center.
It’s along the lines of music visualizations at times, has the overt patterns of fractals at times, and all the enjoyment of diversionary point and click flash apps like TinyGrow, The Jackson Pollock emulator, Echogenesis, flOw, and the Grid Game (which incidentally I just got my best score ever on: 1579).
Many thanks to fellow author SlyFloyd for pointing this out.

Gentle Readers,
I am torn. Every year I say I am going to do something so unbelievably wicked awesome for halloween. Every year I flake out.
This year should be different. I have 2 ideas in mind. One involves a lot of money and would need to be done soon, one involves a lot of time and maybe a little less money and skills I don’t necessarily have.

On a much lighter note than some of the recent material, I’m feeling another wikipedia flood, or “words to know” post coming on real soon. As usual, it will capitalize on my total figurative boner for history.
In the meantime, here’s a link to my mum’s burgeoning Zazzle gallery.
claudia522’s Gallery at Zazzle
Not much to it at the moment, but we’re discussing various options for clever products. She’s got a lot of photos that could potentially make for some very lovely prints.
If anybody has any ideas, do let me know.
Edit: speaking of promotion…
I heard from that Venture Brothers Season 2 will be coming out spring next year. In the meantime, there are plenty of ways to get your hands on the delicious first season. I’m pretty freaking excited about it. There are a LOT of things I like about that show. The episodes of season 2 I caught are all freaking priceless.
Incidentally, one of my favorite Monarch quotes? “I met her on the LiveJournal!” I definitely roffled over that one. Boy howdy.
Through the glory of that Publick’s massive thank you post, I also got to find out a lot more about his partner in crime, Doc Hammer. Like, for example, that the sexy artist has a Mrs. Hammer. (IMDB says they’re separated though. That sucks. Who put that up there anyway? Seems kinda rude.) http://doc-hammer.deviantart.com/ Check out some of his gorgeous portrait art over at this here deviantart account (which I keep neglecting to sign up for *duck*).<p
